While I was standing along one of the Click Ponds this (I think juvenile) red-shouldered hawk flew over and landed on a pipe not far behind me. From the condition of its tail feathers, I’d say it has been pursuing prey on rough ground, damaging its tail feathers to catch a meal. I see a red-tailed hawk that visits my backyard periodically, and its tail feathers are in fine shape. I guess it’s easier catching backyard squirrels than it is catching wild rodents. 40D
